License Management
Overview
License Management is the platform's capacity and licensing center. It answers three questions: "How much capacity have we purchased?", "How much is currently in use?", and "How do we update or expand?". Whether the platform is running on the free allowance or a formal license, you can use this single page to review capacity levels, drill into usage details by module and Configuration Item (CI) category, and upload new license files for expansion or renewal.
License Management does not participate in day-to-day CI entry or discovery operations, but it determines whether the platform can continue to create new resources — when capacity approaches or reaches the limit, creation operations will be warned or even blocked. Administrators therefore need to monitor this module regularly to ensure sufficient capacity.
What this module helps you do:
- See the current capacity level at a glance (used / total / available), with prominent reminders at 80%, 90%, and 100%
- Review license status (Valid / Expired / No License) and the expiry date to plan renewals ahead of time
- Break down usage details by CI category to understand which classifications and source types (auto-discovered vs. manually entered) are consuming capacity
- Upload a
.licensefile obtained through official channels to import, expand, or replace a license in one step
Key Features
- Capacity dashboard: A gauge widget visualizes the capacity usage percentage, with color that changes as the level rises (green → yellow → orange → red), and a top banner that surfaces warnings or block notices
- Tiered alerts: 80% reminder, 90% warning (creation is about to be blocked), 100% block (creation is locked), expired downgrade — each level shows a clear banner message
- Usage details: Per-CI-category rows showing count, weight, coefficient, and converted units, making it easy to spot the largest capacity consumers
- Safe import flow: After uploading a license file, the system first previews the decision (apply directly / needs confirmation / reject). Downgrades or older licenses require a second confirmation to prevent mistakes
Interface Layout
License Management is a single-page application. Tabs at the top switch between three functional areas:
| Tab | Function | Who it's for |
|---|---|---|
| License Status | Capacity dashboard, alert banners, expiry info, license ID | Administrators who care about "is capacity still sufficient" |
| Usage Details | Usage breakdown by module and CI category | Operations staff who want to know "what is consuming capacity" |
| Import License | Upload a .license file to expand or renew | Administrators responsible for license renewal and expansion |
The three tabs are independent and can be switched between at any time. After a successful license import, License Status and Usage Details refresh automatically.
Capacity and Billing Logic Quick Reference
The key to understanding License Management is understanding the platform's capacity billing model. The following concepts apply across all three tabs:
| Concept | Meaning | Plain explanation |
|---|---|---|
| Free allowance | The base capacity before any license is imported | The platform's "out-of-the-box" free quota |
| License units | The additional capacity granted by a formal license | The quota added after purchasing a license |
| Total capacity | Free allowance + license units | The maximum capacity currently available to the platform |
| Consumed | The total converted units of all current CIs | The capacity currently "occupied" |
| Available | Total capacity − consumed | How many more new resources can be created |
| Weight | The base billing weight for a single CI type | Different categories have different "unit prices" |
| Units | Count × weight × source-type coefficient | The actual capacity consumed by this category |
Different CIs consume different amounts of management resources (a computer is "heavier" than an application server), and auto-discovered devices are more controllable than manually entered ones. The platform therefore converts actual consumption using weight × coefficient to make billing fairer. Detailed category breakdowns are available on the Usage Details tab.
Permissions
License Management is a platform-level module that requires the corresponding menu permission to access:
- View permission (read-only): Can view license status and usage details, but cannot import licenses
- Full access: Can view all information and upload / replace license files
If the "License Management" menu is not visible in the left navigation, the current role has not been granted access to this module. Please contact a platform administrator to configure it in Role Management.
